What is Sovereign AI?
It refers to the deployment and development of AI technologies aligned with the digital sovereignty framework, a nation’s capability to produce artificial intelligence using its own infrastructure, data, workforce, and business networks. With governments' increasing oversight and control of data privacy, Digital Sovereignty frameworks are rapidly evolving.
In a recent meeting with Union Minister Mr. Rajeev Chandrashekar NVIDIA’s senior vice president for enterprise sales and business Mr. Shankar Trivedi said that India’s Digital Public Infrastructure(DPI) can be used for building Sovereign Artificial Intelligence, and potential areas for investment were also discussed.
With India’s new infrastructure focus and huge startup ecosystem, DPIs can reach critical mass. DPIs can be a basis for building sovereign AI and running generative AI models.
In a recent announcement, Netweb Technologies has started a manufacturing partnership with tech giant NVIDIA.
NVIDIA is a global leader in AI computing, which is also involved in gaming and robotics.
Netweb Technologies which is a domestic server and high-end computer maker is in talks with the government for setting up an AI sovereign cloud under the AI mission. Many startups want to buy the infrastructure but it is very costly for them. By creating a sovereign cloud the government want startups to have access in the AI compute resources.
Netweb Technologies will soon start manufacturing of NVIDIA GH200 super chip-enabled system, which is called Grace Hopper. It will be primarily manufactured for domestic use and the AI mission.
Prototyping and primary sampling are already done, and commercial production is to be started by the end of this quarter.
